Assignment #9- Reflection and Goals

In this past semester I had a lot of trouble understanding the lessons. I have to admit that this class was not what I expected, it is way more challenging and difficult. I didn't perform so good on my test and due to that my grade was greatly affected. At the beginning of the semester I had trouble doing the blogs and I then realized that blogs are very important just like homework. I performed poorly this semester.

Now that second semester is about to start, I want to prepare myself more in order to do better in test and quizzes. I will read the book, ask questions and remember to do my blogs. I know this class is very challenging but I don't want to give up. I will try harder this semester.

Assignment #8- Data Sets

(a) I chose the data set link 2007 Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Scores by Discipline.

(b) The data set contains 2,533,431 AP Examinations taken by 1,464,254 students from 16,464 secondary schools. It shows the subject of the Examination, the Examinations grade, the number of students who received either a 1,2,3,4, or 5. The Mean of the grade and it's standard deviation.

The purpose of this data is to evaluate the performance for each grade level, type of school, or geographic location.

(c) Examinations of foreign language tend to have a higher Mean Grade than the other Examinations. Why do some students perform higher on foreign language examinations?

Assignment 7-SOCR Website

I really believe that this website will be helpful to our class. An interesting feature I found in this website is the "Distributions" tab at the top of the website. I found this very interesting because it shows you different types of distributions and I believe this will be very helpful later on, as it shows you many different distributions.

Another feauture that I found helpful was the "Probability & Statistics EBook". This is also found at the top of the website. This will really help me and my classmates because it includes material from the textbook. We can even use it now because it has two chapters based on probability, chapters 4and 5. It gives more examples on the subject that can be very helpful.

Assignment #6- Elections Statistics

-I found my information in the Cnn website . 

- It said that Jerry Brown won 51% to Meg Whitman's 41%

-Who: Cnn.com
-Why: To provide poll results regarding elections.
-Where: California
-When:  November 2, 2010
-How: The information was gathered from the voters.

I don't think the information wasn't very accurate, because it was bias. It only gave 86 percent of the results, leaving out another 14 percent that could have been very influential.

The results can be based on only one party, or the areas where the results were gathered could of influence a lot.

The results don't state where and how the results were obtained, making it bias and very selective.

That is my concern, maybe Meg Whitman could have had a chance to win if it wasn't for that 14 resting percent. 

Assignment #5- Pairing Up

1. I would consider pairing up with Alyssa, Sarah and Jocelyn.
They all seem very friendly and nice.
Alyssa always answers questions during class, stating that she knows tha matrial very well.
Sarah is a hard worker, and I know that because last year i also had her for my math class :)
shes very friendly and hardworking,
Jocelyn is quiet, and is always paying attention during lessons. She seems very focused and concentrated.

Assignment #3- Correlation

-Correlation is important because it shows how strong the relationship is between two variables.
-Correlation and Regression analysis has helped me in life by helping me understand how the hours i study affect the grades i get on my test. when i spend more time studying, I tend to get better grades than when I study just before the test. Helps me understand variables better.
-Another correlation that might have impact on my life would be the correlation between the months i study for the Sat and the actual score i get. This can help me manage time, and prepare for the SAT.

2nd Blog Assignment: Assessment Reflection

1. For the first test and quiz I read the chapter and studies my notes. But honestly i just read throught it all fast, so that showed in my grade.
2. In order to be more prepared for the test and quiz I would have studied not only the night before but all the other days I had the chance to. I would had also asked more questions during class, and ask my classmates for help.
3. I waited till like two days before the homework was due, and I believe that was another reason why I didn't do so good in my test.
4. I believe my score is justified, because of the time that was given and also because it was the first quiz and the first test.
